And then off to see the movie Big Miracle, which does a pretty nice job of recreating the national frenzy surrounding the rescue of a pair of California Grey Whales under the coastal ice near Barrow, Alaska.

When you see the words “inspired by”, you know that the events have been changed to fit the director’s vision of what will interest audiences. Here’s a shot from the real rescue attempt …

Very good movie, and according to the clips they show during and after the movie, pretty accurate in general, but a lot of the details were changed. This article gives a brief account, and if you’ve seen the movie you can tell quickly what they did to spice it up for the screen.
